● name: Edward Elric

● age: 21
● (canon) background: FMA wiki
● CRAU background:
Due to Ed's unique canon situation his development within Purg were actually quite similar to those he would have taken following his own timeline. Not only does the FMA canon deal with a portal to another world, I think the changes that Ed endured in Purg quieted him, almost in the same way as Conqueror of Shamballa. He was taken away from his home world, never knowing what happened to Al - and it was awhile before he saw his brother again, which made him sort of distant from most people and resigned to being stuck there. Having been given the general store changed things though, just as in the movie Ed realizes that the brothers have to live for more than just the two of them. After taking over the general store - and then Al joining him - Ed was more involved with all people of Purg. As part of the job of the general store was making welcome baskets for the new members and greeting them at the temple upon arrival. Ed started to branch out more and worry about the well being of the general public instead of just his close friends, making him strikingly similar to a end of movie-verse Ed without the canon update.
I think it might also be important to note that Ed's become accustomed to other characters coming and going so he's learned that just because he might recognize someone that doesn't mean he expects them to recognize him. So, even though he might recognize cross canon CR, he would know enough IC not to assume that they have any idea who he is. It also gives him the benefit of being able to recognize manga only canonmates (such as Miles, or General Armstrong) where he doesn't actually know them in canon, being from the original anime. This is also something that Edward would have experienced (in a way) in canon, because on the other side of the Gate people looked identical to those he knew back home. Meaning Ed had to adjust to recognizing complete strangers who wouldn't know him at all and responding to them in kind.
Like in canon, Ed had to learn to fight alongside those that he'd originally consider his enemies. He struggled with anything from floods, famine, boiling temperatures, the risk of freezing to death and regular monsters. Teamwork as a method to succeed was a big theme where he came from, both in Purg and in Lang. The experience opened Ed's eyes to possibilities beyond his wildest dreams, living side by side with homunculi that on his own world had tried to kill him. Lessons were learned about cooperating with the enemy, as in some cases people were divided into teams and pitted against each othe. The most outlandish thing about his development over the years is most likely the fact that he's learned that some animals can just talk without being a chimera, science experiment, horrifying thing to think about. They can just naturally communicate, and he's come to accept that after much exposure to certain characters.
To summarize, Ed's time in other games has mellowed him out and matured him in a similar way to being in Germany. He's not as quick to outburts, although they do still exist when pushed, and he's overall more concerned for the "whole" of the world than just his own goals, whatever they may be at the time.
Although this isn't necessarily part of the application, I feel that this Ed in particular makes the most sense for Riverview's premise as the concept of feeling displaced is one he would have quite frequently in Lang. Between not being home, not being in Purg anymore and simply not fitting in with the setting of that game - the challenge of which is why I apped him there.
● abilities: Ed's an alchemist, alchemy in the world of Fullmetal Alchemist can be seen described here. For more information on additional abilities, those are included in the skills section below.
● strengths:
He's dedicated, determined and loyal. He makes fast friends off the bat, even sometimes with his 'enemies' (The Tringhams, for example) showing that he's more than capable of adapting to change as well. He thinks on his feet under pressure (most of the time) and more often than not he does it outside the box, continuing to remain optimistic despite every wall he comes to. Ed is a quick thinker, a problem solver, tactile and calculating even under pressure, as well as a skilled martial artist. He's a quick learner, and studious, often called a genius and a natural in alchemy - able to decode even the most thorough of alchemic texts in a considerably short amount of time. He's stubborn and refuses to give up, even when hope seems lost. Although he takes most people at face value, he's usually the first to smell a rat, as demonstrated in canon during the situation with Tucker.
● weaknesses:
Ed is prideful and loyal to a fault. He is also, for all of his cynicism, sometimes naive and even too trusting.
His weaknesses are best demonstrated through his brother. Ed's crippling fear of losing his brother, and overbearing guilt for what he perceives as his fault - Al losing his body - can be life threatening. Ed's concern for the younger boy's well being can completely wipe out Ed's thought process. He's quick to sacrifice anything and offer himself for his brother, Ed never thinks of his own health or safety when it comes to protecting Al. Going so far as to allow Scar to murder him in exchange for his brother's safety.
Edward has a set mind and a stubborn streak, the right amount of damage to his pride can be taken advantage of. It doesn't take much to rile up his temper by pushing his buttons - if you know which to push. Although these situations are temporary, only a brief moment of yelling before he's back to trouble shooting, and these instances have certainly lessened with age.
Due to the human transmutation committed as a child, Ed is equipped with two automail limbs. Although this makes his arm and leg less susceptible to injury, providing an advantage to him in battle it does make him more sensitive to extreme temperatures than your average human. It can be used against him, as he's easily left helpless by tampering with the prosthetic limbs. Someone knowledgeable enough to remove them/reattach them to cause him pain could easily use the alchemist's automail - and best weapons - against him.
Aside from all that another weakness posed by the automail is his inability to swim with it, as the weight alone would drag him under water.
● skills (optional): Ed is known in canon to be a genius, he's perceptive and tactical. Edward is a skilled martial artist, practiced in hand-to-hand combat, able to pick locks and a talented alchemist - which has a variety of uses from fighting to repairing objects.
● housing (optional): Open, though if roommates puts him in a situation of forced socialization, I'm for it.

[There are a few things Ed is quick to concern himself with upon arrival, and even though they certainly relate to "how the hell do I get back where I came from?" he's seen this play out enough times to know that asking that question directly is never likely to get results. At least not the ones he wants. He's well aware that this change of scenery isn't just some new challenge, because if it was there certainly wouldn't be any point to the mark outright disappearing, but it was gone. Which likely meant one thing, they were telling the truth - at least about one aspect of all this, and he was not in Muir anymore.]
Does anyone have any idea what's really going on here? Has anyone been doing any research on this place? Or been here long enough to know whether or not it is what they claim?
[Ed's skeptical about this whole situation, but cynicism wasn't enough to go on that something just wasn't right here. He had a hard time taking everything in that little introduction at face value.]
If we can just ask to be sent home given enough time, has anyone actually pulled it off?
