"Hey, this is Ed. Leave a message."

Backdated Video (October 22nd)
'Mom.' he speaks up, in that Gotham accent, worry in his tone.
'Jason?' her voice a bit put off.
'You've got big trouble, mom. I know all about the Joker.. everything.'
'I don't know what your talking about.' She denies, of course.
'Come on mom! Play straight with me! I can help you!'
'Sure, tell me about it.' She replies pained, before turning back at the sound of the zipper. Seeing the boy wearing an outfit all to famous... Robin. The bright red, yellow and green. Horror washes over her face.
'Mother, there's a lot about me you don't know.'
'Huh! That outfit ..You're... !' her who attitude shift's, she seems almost angry now. 'Come with me.'
And Jason follows like a good soldier. 'Wait! The Joker!' He calls out to her, but she keeps walking
'Is long gone, there's nothing to worry about, but I've something you should see.'
Jason was confused but followed still.
'What? What's going on here?'
'Just step over here, and you'll understand everything... Robin.'
And there was a tall man, whose features couldn't be seen, just that he was pale and a desert hat hid his face he was pointing a gun at him. "What! But you said!" Jason cried out.
'I lied. You see, I can't afford to have you stirring up trouble. I've been dipping into the medical funds myself. If you blow the whistle on the joker the ensuing investigation would certainly uncover my embezzling. Sorry about that kid, looks like you choose to trust the wrong person this time." She was pointing a gun at him to now. Both betrayal and fear washed over him as a gun smashed into him twice, once in the arm once in the head sending him flying.
He was back on his feet fast, but not for long 'Then lets boogie!' he swung out at the man but was knocked back down hard. His head was ringing, he could no longer really tell what they were saying as the Joker's goons started to kick him while he was down. Everything was starting to hurt as the Joker stepped forward again, still his face was impossible to see. This time with a crowbar.
'That wasn't a very nice thing to do to uncle Joker. You've been a bad boy, you must be punished. Prepare yourself for a severe spanking, young man. But let me tell you right from the start this is going to hurt me a lot more than it hurts you.' The crowbar came down, over and over. He only caught a glimpse of his mother through the pain looking away.
Time seemed to melt away, as he tried to push himself up at the sound of the Joker's drifting laughter. 'JASON!' He heard her scream though he could barley see her anymore through the pain and swollen eye. 'De-active the bomb!'
'In no shape to handle that..' he croaked out 'gotta get you outta here. I'll save you mom...' he spoke as he forced his hands to work through the pain to untie her 'Your free, run for it... go... ' He spoke letting himself fall back to the floor, resigned to his fate. Finally the woman was pulling his busted body up as the bomb ticked down from 23.
'Come on, let me help you. We'll both get out of here, together. We're almost there.' She placed him against a pillar to open the door only to find it locked.
'The door!'
'What's wrong?' he asked as she screamed it was locked, the counter was on two as he threw himself up again and over her, the world went white and bright, then faded to black.]

We need to talk. Doesn't matter the hour, let me know when you're home.

[ Jason was shaving, having realized he hadn't since the bar fight. While he didn't mind his stubble it started it itch after a few days and he wasn't keen on it. ]

[Sure, the message sounded urgent but it was less about doing it as soon as possible and more about knowing that the best time for Jay wasn't always within normal waking hours. The fact that he was around and this conversation was going to happen sooner, rather than later? Well, that meant that Ed had to figure out just how to go about it. So, he'll just wait in the communal living area until Jay's done with whatever he's doing. Hoping no one shows up to interrupt this, considering it wasn't likely to be the most pleasant conversation.]

Sorry Ed, I was shaving, what's up?

You know that talk we had about coming to each other with facts?
[He chose those words carefully, following Jason's owns wording after he'd gotten Ed's memory in his voicemail. The blond lifts a hand, indicating his device, expression shifting slightly to a dark smirk.]
You want the facts or... you just want to take my word for it? I'll let you decide.
[He doesn't point out that it's more than Jay did for him, but the implication is in his tone.]
no subject
Yeah...
[ Seeing Ed lift the device and his words made the color drain from Jay's face before he took a breath. Whatever Ed had seen, it clearly had to be bad to warrant the reaction. Namely after the douche move he pulled on Ed less than a week before. He deserved whatever was coming. ]
Always facts. Show me. Whatever it was, I'm sorry you had to see it.

None of us are in control of what gets shared during all this. Just how we handle it.

His guilt wasn't on himself but failing to save the woman who betrayed him. Part of him would be forever bitter, while part of him still wanted her to love him. He couldn't help it. That was what he wanted most in life, was to be truly wanted by one of his parents. Shelia was enough of an unknown factor that he didn't even have a photo, just the few minutes he knew her.]
Still, my bad, you shouldn't have had to see that. [ He moved to sit on one of the chairs needing a moment to collect himself before he could bottle it back down.]
no subject
You shouldn't have, either. Or lived it. Or heard what happened to Al.
[He lifted a hand to rake it through blond bangs before shaking his head, voice soft as if speaking more to himself than Jason at this point.]
I'll be glad when all of this is over.
no subject
It's the hand we were both dealt. We play the hand even if its a loser and see where the game goes.
[ he spoke simply before nodding.]
Yeah, me to. The past should be behind us. No point looking back.

All we can do is move forward. If I learned anything before coming here, there's a lesson to be taken from everything. We're definitely learning it after this. I'm just not sure what it's supposed to be, yet.
no subject
...You sound like Tim. [ He couldn't help the bitter laugh that escaped.]
no subject
Well, it makes sense, doesn't it?
[He's watching Jay curiously, not entirely sure about this subject, or that it's one he wants to tread on. Probably safest bet not to comment on those words specifically.]
no subject
It does, it's logical. I've just never been one for faith in futures, if that makes sense.
